What to do if Genie+ Goes Down (at Disney World or Disneyland)

If you are at all familiar with Disney’s website or app, you know that glitches happen more frequently than we care to admit. It’s a pain, and honestly, it’s inevitable. One day last week as people were getting ready to book their first Lightning Lane passes of the day at 7:00 a.m. EST, Genie+ quit working, and people were in a panic! We are here to help you create a plan if the worst case scenario happens when you’re there!
First and foremost, DON’T panic! Keep in mind that not only is this happening to you, but it’s happening to everyone else that is getting ready to head to the parks, so you’re definitely not going to be missing out on valuable Lightning Lane passes just yet! Another thing to remember is that Disney already knows about what’s going on, and they’re on it, and doing their absolute best to get things back online so that everyone has a seamless day!

Next, get to the parks ASAP so you can take advantage of your 30 minute early park entry if you’re staying on Disney property. Don’t waste time in your room, worrying about not getting that Lightning Lane pass booked. Head to the bus, monorail, or Skyliner, and get there early so you can take advantage of the lower crowds before the general public is allowed in! Check periodically to see if it’s working yet, but don’t obsess over it. Depending on which park you’re headed to, make your way to those rides that have the seemingly eternal wait times (you know I’m talking about Seven Dwarfs Mine Train, Frozen Ever After, Rise of the Resistance, and Flight of Passage!).
Then, keep an eye on the wait times in your app. Tap the location pin on the bottom of your screen in the app, then tap the drop-down menu at the top of the screen to find wait times. Depending on where you are in the parks, and what rides and attractions are on your must-do list, head to those with lower wait times. The more you can knock out in the first 30 minutes before everyone else is allowed entrance and before the wait times skyrocket, the less stressed you’ll feel later in the day!
Finally, remember that Disney is working hard to get things fixed as quickly as possible. You will likely see guests standing in long lines at the Guest Services windows or the blue tents, wanting to know what is going on and when it’s going to be fixed. Those poor cast members likely don’t know any more than you do about when it will be back up and running, so give them a break and be kind to them. They are likely feeling as frantic as you are, so rest easy knowing that those who are responsible for working on it will get it fixed. Last week when it wasn’t working, they had it fixed within an hour or so. However, if you’re still having issues with Genie+ and booking your Lightning Lane passes, definitely head to a blue tent or Guest Services so they can help you out. So, make the most of your day, take in the magic of Disney through the eyes of your children (or grandchildren), and don’t sweat the small stuff!
